Artists: Dominic Head
SIX Gallery and Project Space is delighted to present Verpixelt, an exhibition of new artworks by artist Dominic Head, from 1st November to 8th November 2013. The exhibition will showcase a range of screen prints on paper and canvas, as well as an experimental new video installation, that source and reflect upon Google Street View as a global meta-picture.
Verpixelt [German: ‘pixelated’] examines the various ways in which people actively engage with the Street View gaze, through intimate performances before the camera, or through re-photographing the Google car itself. The exhibition considers the reaction of countries such as Germany to Street View through the macabre aesthetic of blurred architectures in an eponymously titled image series. In another series, Verpixelt uses miniature pictures of facially blurred people on Street View as an allegorical portrait of the global citizen today.
Dominic Head was born in Lemington Spa, England (b.1990), and now lives and works in London. Having graduated from Wimbledon College of Art in 2012, he has continued to develop his artistic practice, and is represented by the Degree Art Gallery, London.
SIX Gallery and Project Space was founded in July 2013 to support and showcase the artistic practices of both emerging and established artists. Its aim is to act as a mediator of art to the community of Bournemouth, through an exciting and experimental schedule of artist talent.
